On July 6, 2015, the Carnival Pride sought help from the U.S. Coast Guard regarding a medical emergency some 200 miles off the Wilmington, NC coast. Carnival Pride, owned and operated by Carnival Cruise Line, is a 965′ cruise ship that travels from Baltimore, MD to the Bahamas, Bermuda and Caribbean.

Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and HC-130 Hercules aircraft crews from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina (about an hour south of Norfolk, VA) responded to the medevac request just be 6pm for a 77-year-old woman suffering stroke symptoms. She was eventually taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC in stable condition, according to the Coast Guard.

In the video below you can see the Jayhawk helicopter crew hoist the ailing woman with remarkable stability. A family member and a medical professional were also hoist to the helicopter and transferred to the hospital by 9pm.

Helicopter pilot Lt.j.g. Kevin Riley said in the press release:

We are glad to have been able to help at a time of great need, and we hope the patient makes a complete recovery. Assisting those in distress is a rewarding part of Coast Guard duty.
